 Cyndee Van De Walker Scholarship Laguna Plein Air Painters Association is an artist membership organization that has been developed to assist artists in their artwork and bring them information and opportunities for advancement. Cyndee Van De Walker was a committed artist who enjoyed being a member of LPAPA. A memorial scholarship fund has been created in her name by her family and friends. Their wish is to offer LPAPA members an opportunity to attend a workshop of their choice to improve and develop their craft. Cyndee Van de Walker Scholarship Awarded LPAPA Candidate Kay Flierl for 2007 Scholarship Award Dear LPAPA and family and friends of Cyndee Van De Walker, My heartfelt thanks for being chosen as the recipient of the 2007 Cyndee Van de Walker scholarship. I look forward to attending a workshop in the near future. When I chose to switch my career from graphic design to painting five years ago, I was the mother of two young children and unable to return to school full-time. My determination, however, urged me to forge ahead. I spent countless hours reading and experiencing art in whatever way I could to understand the medium of paint and the business side of an artist. After much practice and some initial success with sales to friends and neighbors, I was lucky to find representation with a few galleries. At the same time, I began taking plein air workshops and realized how much I loved painting outdoors. In July of 2006, my family and I relocated to California. In order to fully immerse myself in California's rich history of plein air painting, I immediately joined LPAPA so that I could be surrounded by and learn from the many notable painters. I am eager to bring my art to the level of many of LPAPA’s signature members and am working hard to get there. I know this takes time, a lot of paint and some education along the way. So, with no end to learning, I'll take each opportunity such as this award and keep forging ahead. Letter from 2006 Cyndee Van de Walker Scholarship Award Winner Daniel Aldana Dear LPAPA Membership I would like to thank the scholarship committee, LPAPA members and the family and friends of Cyndee Van De Walker for the 2006 scholarship. I attended the Scottsdale Art School on Arizona, and had the privilege of studying with John Poon. His workshop was a mixture of studio work and field studies and his lectures were extremely informative especially his discussion on values.
