LPAPA’s Miniature Auction FUNraiser celebrates the plein air painting legacy that helped establish Laguna Beach as an artists’ colony more than a century ago by famous early plein air painters — William Wendt, Edgar Payne, Frank Cuprien, Anna Hills, and many others — who founded the first Laguna Beach Art Association, and opened the first Laguna Beach art gallery, in 1918. To raise the money needed to open the gallery and support the association, the artists hosted art parties and painted special miniatures for their patrons that are now coveted by fine art collectors. LPAPA brings this historical tradition into the present with miniature paintings created by our contemporary award-winning Artists in support of the Annual Laguna Beach Plein Air Invitational, the LPAPA Gallery, and LPAPA’s Mission to keep the Laguna Plein Air Painting tradition and legacy alive for future generations.
