The Laguna Plein Air Painter Association hosted its 7th Annual “Patron Party & Miniature Auction FUN-raiser” on Thursday, August 26, 2021, at its new LPAPA Gallery located at 414 North Coast Highway on Gallery Row in Laguna Beach! It was great fun to share this special new gallery space with our guests at this sold-out event! The FUN began with a reception that included delightful seasonal savory and sweet bites prepared exclusively for the evening’s festivities by local Private Chef Andrea Drexelius, served with a selection of fine Bianchi wines, as guests mingled with fellow art lovers to celebrate the annual gathering as a coveted collectors’ favorite opportunity to add a special gem to their collection. Guests were encouraged to wear face masks when social distancing was not possible; fully vaccinated guests had the option to wear face masks at their discretion.
Special guest Mr. Jean Stern, Art Historian and nationally recognized authority on California Impressionism, shared fascinating stories about historical miniatures and the artists who helped establish Laguna Beach as an artists’ colony. He also shared and displayed historical miniatures from his private collection.
The artwork was showcased in LPAPA’s online digital 2021 Miniature Art Auction Catalog (above is a button with a link to view). The art auction opened exclusively to Patron Party attendees and Proxy Bidders for a lively fast-paced live auction hosted during the patron party event. In addition to the in-person party, our patrons who are not able to join us had a virtual ticket option with a proxy assigned to bid on behalf of our offsite guests.
LPAPA’s Miniature Auction FUN-raiser celebrates the plein air painting legacy that helped establish Laguna Beach as an artists’ colony more than a century ago. Now famous early plein air artists — William Wendt, Edgar Payne, Frank Cuprien, Anna Hills, and many others — founded the first Laguna Beach Art Association, and opened the first Laguna Beach art gallery, in 1918. To raise the money needed to open the gallery and support the association, the artists hosted art parties and painted special miniatures for their patrons that are now coveted by fine art collectors. LPAPA brings this tradition into the present with miniature paintings created by our contemporary award-winning 2021 Laguna Beach Plein Air Painting Invitational Artists to support our Gallery and help us keep the plein air painting tradition alive in Laguna Beach for future generations.
This annual event is a wonderful opportunity to add a little gem of a miniature to your art collection and help LPAPA preserve Laguna’s plein air painting legacy… past, present, and future! All are encouraged to bid generously or make a donation to support LPAPA’s Mission!
