In 1996, the Laguna Plein Air Painters Association (LPAPA) was founded when Saim Caglayan invited his outdoor painting friends – Ken Auster, Jacobus Baas, Cynthia Britain and John Cosby – to join him in forming the organization. The primary motivation for the formation of LPAPA was to link the strong plein air movement of the early California painters to the present ones and to create a bond amongst the contemporary plein air painters throughout the nation.
