The Laguna Plein Air Painter Association went virtual to host its 6th Annual “Patron Party & Miniature Auction FUN-raiser”. That means more art lovers enjoyed this special art auction event that has become an annual collector’s favorite. The FUN kicked off with the virtual Patron Party Friday evening with special guest Mr. Jean Stern, Art Historian and nationally recognized authority on California Impressionism, who indulged our virtual guests with fascinating stories about historical miniatures and the artists who helped establish Laguna Beach as an artists’ colony (LPAPA Members can log at lpapa-portal.org and go to Plein Talks under the video tab to watch the recording of Mr. Stern’s Plein Talk). Our Patron guests received an advance copy of the interactive digital art catalog and were given early priority access to the auction and buy-now opportunities.
The online art auction opened to the public at 7:00pm PDT, Friday June 19th, immediately following the Patron Party guest access, and continues throughout the weekend, ending Sunday June 21st at 5:00pm.
LPAPA’s Miniature FUN-raiser celebrates the plein air painting legacy that helped establish Laguna Beach as an artists’ colony. Now famous early plein air artists — William Wendt, Edgar Payne, Frank Cuprien, Anna Hills, and others — founded the first Laguna Beach Art Association, and opened the first Laguna Beach art gallery, in 1918. To raise the money needed to open the gallery and support the association, the artists hosted art parties and painted special miniatures for their patrons. LPAPA brings this tradition into the present with miniature paintings created by our contemporary award-winning LPAPA artists.
This is your opportunity to add a little gem of a miniature to your art collection and help LPAPA preserve Laguna’s plein air painting legacy of the past, present, and future!
