The Plein Air Project*
Established by Signature Artist Member Jeff Sewell and carried forward by LPAPA Vice President Celeste Gilles, The Plein Air Project is the heart of LPAPA’s educational mission. We are dedicated to cultivating a love for the landscape across all ages through our signature “Generation” programs:
-
The Future Generation: Led by Co-Chairs Artist Members Denise Bradley and Debbie Morines, is tailored for 4th-grade students to spark an early interest in art whiles studying California history.
-
The Next Generation: Led by Co-Chairs Signature Artist Mason Williams and Artist Member Kelley Mogilka, is designed to support and mentor college-level artists while providing scholarship and resume-building art exhibition opportunities.
-
The Now Generation: Focused on adult mentoring, Paint Outs, Workshops, and “Plein Talks” for professional, emerging, and beginning painters, as well as art enthusiasts.
Beyond the classroom, we host community and member Paint Outs, Plein Talks and the Laguna Invitational Future Generation Paint Out, providing students in grades 4–12 with a unique, hands-on opportunity to paint outdoors alongside professional artists, and display their artwork at the LPAPA Gallery with 100% of the proceeds supporting the participating students’ schools.
The Plein Air Project* is supported by the City of Laguna Beach (B.I.D. and C.A.F. Grant Funding), the Festival of Arts Foundation, and LOCA Arts Education. We also thank The Ritz-Carlton, Laguna Niguel, and our incredible community of LPAPA members, donors and sponsors. Their collective support allows us to offer free programming to schools and affordable art education to our members and the public.
