” A hiker moves through the landscape. An artist allows the landscape to move through them. From the fixed point of an easel, I become a crude conduit, though which the story of a moment is told. Sometimes I don’t listen very well, or I just don’t get it. Occasionally, I’m able to use pastels or paint to translate that feeling of deep longing into something worth sharing.”
