Arnold Creek Estuary

Michael Gibbons, LPAPA Signature Artist Member from Toledo, Oregon traveled to Mahonia Hall, Salem, the Official Residence of Oregon’s Governor Kate Brown on March 16 to complete the filming of “Yaquina”, a Traveling Exhibit DVD showing the Yaquina Watershed from Toledo to Newport through the 40 oil paintings the artist has done over a 30 year period of time as a study focusing on the history and changing landscape of that area.

Peter Vince, retired TAG teacher from Toledo High School worked with students to make the DVD through a Grant received from the Siletz Tribal Charitable Contribution Fund under sponsorship of the Yaquina River Museum of Art, Toledo. The Design Team of Gibbons, Vince, and composer Gabriel Salcedo along with Toledo High School students filmed Gibbons with his “Arnold Creek Estuary” 62”x42” oil painting that hangs in the dining room of the Hall. Credit of inspiration is given by and to the Team in using this art as a key point for creating the DVD.

Dan Little, husband of Governor Kate Brown, gave the group a personalized tour of Mahonia Hall, the Ellis Lawrence Architect designed home built in the 1920’s and carefully renovated to the era. Salcedo treated the group to a mini-concert on the baby grand piano in the living room , playing his original composition for the DVD, “Yaquina Impressions” .

For more information and to find out exhibit locations or to book a showing of “Yaquina” Traveling Exhibit, please contact Michael Gibbons at (541) 336 2797 or email michaelgibbonsart@charter.net
