A native Angeleno, Mike Hernandez is a plein air painter skilled in gouache, oil and acrylic, who’s works have been featured in several on-line publications as well as galleries. His process began as a young child, painting still life images. Influenced by the likes of Edgar Payne, Sorolla and Franz Bischoff,  Mike soon explored the foundations of color and light in the outdoors – striving to find the beauty in the ordinary.

Brenda’s plein air advice & artwork:  LPAPA Plein Talk with Brenda Boylan & Artwork Showcase

In the height of the 80’s, Boylan began her artistic career as a graphic designer in Oregon creating designs for high profile sportswear clients such as NIKE, Adidas, Columbia Sportswear, and Avia.  In 1994, seeking a more flexible and rewarding schedule, she carried her sense of balance and design over to a fine art career painting in pastel or oil, quickly earning her the distinction of Signature Memberships with the Pastel Society of America, the Northwest Pastel Society, and the Laguna Plein Air Painters Association.  Her biggest joy is the practice of plein air painting on location as well as teaching pastel workshops.

“My art is a visual display of all my senses orchestrating at once. Every time I enter into another painting my surroundings come alive from the rhythm of my heartbeat, the glow of light, the structure of design and the dance of color. Sometimes I am overwhelmed by beauty that I struggle to harness these feelings, but I am drawn to do it as if breathing. As I layer pigment down it is a slow unveiling of my inner self to the world, revealing the imperfections that I wish to improve with every mark. And so I paint.” — Brenda Boylan
