“It is often said that art is a ‘right brain’ endeavor and yet I’ve always considered myself to be quite grounded in left brain thinking even as I paint.  The physics of light and color fascinates me and ‘understanding it’ helps me to ‘see it’ which then allows me to ‘paint it’.  I try to paint scenes that are a bit unexpected and still convey a pleasing sense of familiarity.”

“I love being outside, exploring and painting the everyday scenery of Los Angeles and Southern California, A friend of mine said that my paintings capture “the idea of California”. I like that. As anyone who has lived in LA knows, it isn’t quite what you see in the movies. She’s anything but an easy lover, but if you play your cards right, she might just flash you a smile.”

“Through my work, I aim to evoke a sense of wonder, appreciation, and contemplation, inviting viewers to marvel at the sublime existence of these landscapes. Drawing from the rich legacy of Impressionist and plein air painters, I employ expressive color, gestural mark-making, and striking yet simple designs.”

“I describe my  style of Plein Air as realism. While I do strive for accurate drawing, value, and color to represent his subject, I rely heavily on the spontaneity of the paint as it is transferred from brush to canvas. Through thick and thin, rough and smooth brushwork, I believe that detail is better left implied than described. “

“My work is rooted in all things that bring beauty to us on this planet. Plein-air painting allows me to connect directly with the landscape, cityscapes—capturing fleeting moments, and the energy of the outdoors. Back in the studio, I reflect on those experiences, refining ideas and exploring the emotional depth that emerges from memory and observation. Whether in the field or at the easel, I strive to create paintings that express a sense of place, mood, and movement, inviting viewers to pause and reflect on the world in my paintings.”
