“I’ve always enjoyed cityscapes because people, places, and a moment in time capture my interest. It’s like you’re being a storyteller about that moment in time.”

“Many people say I see color and light that isn’t there. I contend that I’m observing things as they really are, at least to me. Whenever possible, I try to make a statement through my work, employing a playful twist or edge that a viewer can appreciate. I invite you to observe, and then experience a moment in time through my paintings.”

“While I have worked in many media, for me watercolor is the most immediate. By embracing the water’s independence, I find that it is both medium and metaphor, and at times both a curse and a blessing. I love that aspect of art making- something that is out of my control and a challenge. My journey in watercolor is to learn how to conjure the water into abstraction, in other words to allow the water to do the work.”

“Being a painter is more than mastery of techniques. It’s the desire to express how I feel about my world and my response to it. To put simply…to communicate. My tools are that of a painter: brush, paint, paper and ink. I sketch and paint outdoors constantly. Working en plein air has taught me to be observant to the effects of light and atmosphere. I take this knowledge with me into the studio. Being an artist is an endless journey…always struggling to achieve one’s best work. The struggle keeps my work honest and direct .”

“In my paintings, I seek to capture those stories I find in the shifting color and light through unique color palettes and bold brushstrokes. My goal is not to reiterate what I see onto a canvas; I strive to capture the energy, essence, and fleeting impression that the landscape embedded in me when I first laid eyes on the sight.”
