LPAPA is proud to present a special “Artist in Residence” solo exhibition by LPAPA Signature Artist Jove Wang at the LPAPA Gallery November 3-28, 2022. “The Great American West” will include major studio paintings and the field work that inspired them. The show will open on Thursday November 3rd with a First Thursdays Art Walk Gallery Reception (free, open to the public 11am – 9pm), followed with a private VIP Collectors Reception with Jove Wang on Saturday November 5th (private ticketed event; ticket link below).

Creating a major studio painting takes more than just the desire to paint. Hours of research to find an inspiring location, time in the field to paint plein air studies, weeks, sometimes months, of design work while the idea percolates, and days (or sometimes even a year) of painting all go into creating the final painting that will be framed and exhibited. The Laguna Plein Air Painters Association’s LPAPA Gallery is located at 414 North Coast Highway on Gallery Row, between Jasmine and Myrtle Streets, in Laguna Beach. Gallery hours are 11am to 5pm Thursday through Monday and by appointment. The gallery is open extended hours, 6pm to 9pm, for Laguna’s First Thursday Art Walk the first Thursday of each month. LPAPA is proud to present a special “Artist in Residence” solo exhibition by LPAPA Signature Artist Kathleen Dunphy, June 2nd through July 4th, 2022. “Outside Insights” will include major studio paintings and the field work that inspired them.

Creating a major studio painting takes more than just the desire to paint. Hours of research to find an inspiring location, time in the field to paint plein air studies, weeks of design work while the idea percolates, and days (or sometimes even months) of painting all go into creating the final product.

But so often in the art world, we only see the end result of an artist’s creation: the finished painting hanging in a beautiful frame. What goes on behind the scenes to make that painting happen? How does the artist get the idea? What happens during the planning process? Where does she even start?
.

In her new show, “Outside Insights”, Kathleen Dunphy will take you behind the scenes to show you her painting process from inception to final painting. The exhibit will include 4-5 larger studio paintings, as well as the field work that inspired and informed the paintings: plein air studies, sketchbook drawings, notes from her journal, and photographs of her time in the field. Learn how one artist approaches her work in this informative and engaging exhibit.

The LPAPA Gallery is located at 414 N. Coast Highway, on Gallery Row between Jasmine and Myrtle, in Laguna Beach. Gallery hours are 11am to 5pm Thursday through Monday (available by appointment Tuesdays and Wednesdays and before or after hours). We are open extended hours, 6pm to 9pm, for Art Walk the First Thursday of each month.

LPAPA Art Gallery Signature Showcase The LPAPA Gallery is currently featuring original works by LPAPA Signature Artist Members in the 2022 “Signature Showcase”, available now through Monday, February 28, 2022, with a refresh on Thursday February 3rd for First Thursdays Laguna Beach Art Walk (6 pm – 9 pm).

The Signature Showcase exhibition includes work by Cynthia Britain, Saim Caglayan, Larry Cannon, Rick J. Delanty, Gil Dellinger, Mark Fehlman, Tatyana Fogarty, Carole Gray-Weihman, Dan Graziano, Debra Joy Groesser, Scott Hamill, Nita Harper, Jeff Horn, Debra Huse, Chuck Kovacic, Jason Li, Shuang Li, Calvin Liang, Richard Lindenberg, David Marty, Lisa Mozzini-McDill, Jim McVicker, Michael Obermeyer, Kathie Odom, Scott W. Prior, Robin Purcell, Jason Sacran, Anthony Salvo, Jeff Sewell, Michael Situ, and Keiko Tanabe.

The Signature Showcase will be followed by the Best of Plein Air juried art show from March 3rd through April 4th, 2022.

The LPAPA Gallery is open Thursday through Monday, 11:00 am to 5:00 pm, with extended hours the First Thursday of each month for Artwalk Laguna Beach, 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm.

Come by the LPAPA Gallery to meet up for our first “Member Monday” at the Gallery! LPAPA President Toni Kellenberg will be at the gallery 11:00 am to 5:00 pm to greet you with some LPAPA goodies. Bring a friend! Come for some plein talk, ask questions, meet other members, and if you bring your gear, walk over to Heisler Park for a Paint Together!

The gallery is located at 414 N. Coast Highway, Laguna Beach, between Jasmine and Myrtle.

This is an informal meet-up and paint together for the plein fun of it, no registration required!
