This exhibition showcases new masterworks that define the current landscape of contemporary impressionism and the current artistic journey of LPAPA’s Best in Show award winners.

LPAPA is grateful for the Joe Hanks Van Cleave Foundation’s support in sponsoring the 2025 Awards. We embrace the Foundation’s Mission to support both individuals and collaborations with established charitable organizations in the education and artistic expression of Plein Air watercolor artwork in its infinite forms.

The LPAPA Gallery is located at 414 N. Coast Highway, Laguna Beach, California. Gallery hours are Thursday through Monday, 11AM to 5PM and by appointment; hours extended to 9PM for First Thursday Art Walk each month.

Award Winners: (cash award winners to be announced on May 1, 2025). The 1st Place “Best Plein Air Painting” award-winning artist will also receive a coveted invitation to participate in LPAPA’s 27th Annual Laguna Beach Plein Air Painting Invitational, October 4 -12, 2025. 

Proceeds generated through the sale of artwork benefit the participating artists and helps sustain nonprofit Laguna Plein Air Painters Association (LPAPA) art and education programs. LPAPA’s mission is dedicated to painting the landscape, preserving Laguna’s artistic legacy, and promoting the plein air painting tradition. LPAPA strives to enhance the livelihood of its artist members through education and opportunity, and inspire the next generation of plein air painters to continue the tradition!

The LPAPA Gallery is proud to present a special Masters Exhibition “LPAPA Beyond the Landscape” featuring major works created by artists Jove Wang, Scott Burdick and Dan McCaw.

VISIT LPAPA’S ARTSY VIEWING ROOM

This unique exhibition promises to broaden your artistic experience, showcasing a diverse collection that transcends traditional landscapes and subject matters typically associated with the Laguna Plein Air Painters Association (LPAPA). Gallery visitors can expect an array of artworks, including landscapes, figurative work, and quasi-abstract art.

This special Masters Exhibition will open with an online preview on Monday June 2nd followed by the LPAPA Gallery opening on Thursday June 5, 2025, with free entry for a special Art Walk Reception (6-9pm) celebrating the artists and the opening of this special exhibition!

Register to join us for a special private LPAPA Gallery reception on Saturday June 7th, 6-8PM, for an intimate evening talk with the artists. This will be a rare opportunity to have these three masters in the same room sharing their artistic journeys. Tickets $50 (LPAPA Members $40). The Laguna Plein Air Painters Association (LPAPA), in conjunction with the Laguna Art Museum exhibition Joseph Kleitsch: Abroad and At Home in Old Laguna, is delighted to bring “Inspired by Joseph Kleitsch” to the LPAPA Gallery featuring works created by LPAPA Signature Artists Rick J. Delanty, Calvin Liang, Jim McVicker, Lisa Mozzini-McDill, Michael Obermeyer, Scott W. Prior, Lori Putnam, and Aaron Schuerr.

This is a historical “must see” so be sure to plan your visit this summer! In the meantime, enjoy viewing the art through our interactive art catalog. The LPAPA Gallery and Laguna Art Museum exhibitions continue through September 24, 2023. LPAPA and its Artists are honored for this opportunity to be celebrate and be inspired by the work of Joseph Kleitsch and celebrate the past, present and future of  California impressionism!

LPAPA is pleased to present a 2-Day “Signature Artist in Residence” Laguna Plein Air Painting Workshop with Peggi Kroll Roberts, Friday July 28th and Saturday July 29th, 2023.

Peggi Kroll Roberts WorkshopAlways wanted to learn to paint expressive figures in your landscapes? Want to improve your results while painting outdoors? Always wanted to learn about plein air painting but have been afraid to try it? Need some inspiration to kick-start your work? Then this class is for you!

Join Peggi Kroll Roberts, award-winning oil painter and LPAPA Signature Artist, for this outdoor painting workshop focused on painting figures in the landscape on location in Laguna Beach. Peggi will walk you through her process for creating exciting, expressive paintings.

Class meets from 9:30 am-4:30 pm each day. All levels welcome, beginner to professional. This workshop will include talks, demonstrations, lots of one-on-one instruction, and painting on location at outdoor Laguna locations. Peggi will demonstrate her painting technique and students will have the opportunity to paint plein air studies in this fun and informative 2-day class. Students must provide their own art supplies, meals, and transportation to and from painting sites. Maximum of 12 students, minimum of 8.

In addition to the workshop, the LPAPA Gallery is proud to present a special “Artist in Residence” Showcase Exhibition of available paintings, collages and ceramics by Peggi Kroll Roberts, July 6 – July 31, 2023.

Workshop Tuition*: $375 for LPAPA Members, $400 for Non-Members
Maximum: 12 students
Dates: Friday July 28 and Saturday July 29, 2023
Times: 9:30 am to 4:30 pm with a 1-hour lunch break each day
Locations: Painting locations, as well as a recommended supply list, to be provided to registrants in advance.

*Note: The workshop tuition must be paid in full to hold your spot. If you need to cancel, a full refund will be issued if LPAPA receives your cancellation more than 60 days prior to the start of the class (on or before May 27, 2023). If you cancel within 60 days of the start of the class (on or after May 28, 2023, and no later than June 27, 2023), you will receive a refund of your tuition LESS a $100 cancellation fee UNLESS someone on the waiting list fills your spot in the class in which case you will receive a full refund. If you cancel within 4 weeks of the start date (on or after June 28, 2023), you forfeit your entire tuition UNLESS someone from the waiting list fills your spot in the class in which case you will receive a full refund.
