Laguna Plein Air Invitational 2017 Awards

January 15, 2017 by Toni Kellenberg

The 19th Annual Laguna Beach Plein Air Painting Invitational took place the week of October 7th – 15th, 2017, with 35 participating artists invited to compete in what has been referred to as the “power-house” of plein air invitational events. The annual event is presented by nonprofit Laguna Plein Air Painters Association (LPAPA) and supports their mission to promote the plein air painting tradition that established Laguna Beach as an Art Colony over 100 years ago. This annual event is made possible with the generous support of our sponsors, patrons and contributors.

Laguna Plein Air Painting Invitational

January 6, 2017 by Toni Kellenberg

Celebrate the legacy, be part of the tradition…

Each year the Laguna Plein Air Painters Association transforms Laguna Beach, the famous seaside community and historic artist colony, into an outdoor painting studio with the West Coast’s most prestigious plein air art event, the Laguna Beach Plein Air Painting Invitational. This event showcases the nation’s top plein air landscape painters who compete for prestigious prizes and participate in a 9-day plein air painting celebration that includes public paint-outs, painting demonstrations, Plein Talk conversations, and educational events and activities. Culminating with an annual favorite for art lovers, the highly anticipated Collectors Gala on Saturday October 14th where attendees get the first look and first opportunity to purchase the original art created throughout the week and presented for awards consideration. The Saturday evening Collectors Gala is a ticketed event; artwork sold during the Gala will go home that evening with its collector so this may be the only opportunity to see all the amazing plein air artwork created during the week — including the award winning paintings! The artists will replace artwork sold during the Gala with fresh work for Sunday’s Laguna Plein Air Art Show, a full day of art, live painting demonstrations and mingling with the artists. Free entrance to the public on Sunday October 15th, the one and only full day to see some of the best plein air art work in the country!
