“From the time I was in kindergarten, they couldn’t get me away from the easel. Long winters in New England made me find ways to occupy myself. Coloring was a frequent activity. I remember liking the blank pages of coloring books the best so I could draw on my own.

In college, my practical side led me to study graphic design and work in graphic design. While also studying art history and visiting art museums frequently. Once I became a stay at home parent, I was able to study watercolor with William Ternes of Massachusetts and became focused on that one medium.

I moved to Northern California in 1995 and felt that painting outside was the logical thing to do. The Mediterranean climate and lovely rumpled landscapes became my subject. I am attracted to color, pattern and texture in the hills.” — Robin Purcell

“I believe art elevates the world.  While looking at art, we temporarily move away from our own reality into a larger perspective where we  experience a moment of  peace. I paint what I love with all my heart.  My hope is that my paintings will ring true and touch the lives of others in a meaningful way.”  — Janine Salzman

Scott is an award winning oil painter and Southern California native. He received his BFA from The Academy of Art University in San Francisco, California, where he established his skills in design, drawing and painting, giving him a solid foundation with which to develop his own unique, artistic style. Scott draws inspiration from the beauty in ordinary, everyday scenes. Click here for Scott’s full bio.

“If you want to really hurt your parents, and you don’t have the nerve to be gay, the least you can do is go into the arts. I’m not kidding. The arts are not a way to make a living. They are a very human way of making life more bearable. Practicing an art, no matter how well or badly, is a way to make your soul grow, for heaven’s sake. Sing in the shower. Dance to the radio. Tell stories. Write a poem to a friend, even a lousy poem. Do it as well as you possibly can. You will get an enormous reward. You will have created something.” –Kurt Vonnegut
