Lyudmila Tomova Clark
LPAPA Signature Artist Lyudmila Tomova Clark
Cary, North Carolina
Lyudmila Tomova Clark is an internationally acclaimed, award-winning artist known for her luminous impressionist style. Working primarily in oil and watercolor, she specializes in figurative, portrait, and plein-air painting. Her work merges abstraction with realism, capturing atmosphere, emotion, and movement through bold color, expressive mark-making, and a deeply observed sense of light.
Over the past two years alone, her paintings have earned more than 50 awards in national and international exhibitions, including 21 First-Place honors, along with major distinctions such as Grand Prize, Best in Show, and international competition awards. Notable recent achievements include 2nd Place in the Plein Air category at the International ARC Salon, accompanied by the Plein Air Magazine Award, the President’s Award from Oil Painters of America, and top honors at major events including Plein Air Easton, Bluff Strokes, Suffolk Plein Air Festival, Cape Ann Plein Air, Gloucester Plein Air, and Degallery Invitational. She was also a Top 40 Finalist in the PleinAir Salon Competition, one of the most competitive plein-air competitions worldwide.
Tomova Clark’s paintings balance structure and spontaneity, often painted directly from life in the tradition of classical plein-air practice. Whether depicting figures, urban scenes, or natural landscapes, her work emphasizes mood, gesture, and the human experience of place rather than literal description.

Scott Burdick
LPAPA Signature Artist Scott Burdick

Scott Burdick was born in Chicago, Illinois in 1967 where his mother and father early on encouraged his interest in Art. “I spent a lot of time in hospitals as a child and remember my mother showing me how to transform simple shapes like circles, triangles, and squares into objects like planes, helicopters, and fish. It seemed such a magical thing and made spending so much time in casts and on crutches much more bearable.”
In high school, Scott began taking life-drawing classes at the American Academy of Art under the legendary Bill Parks. “Though I’d always loved drawing, it was Mr. Parks who filled me with the enthusiasm and discipline necessary to improve my skills. His love of painting and creative expression infected us all.” After finishing the Academy, Scott continued his study informally with Richard Schmid at the Palette and Chisel Art Club, where he met his wife, painter Susan Lyon. “It’s a wonderful thing being able to paint together all the time and grow as artists together,” Scott says.
Scott has received numerous awards for his work including the 1996 Oil Painters of America Award of Excellence, the 1999 and 2000 Laguna Plein Air Painting Invitational Artist Choice Awards, 2002 Laguna Plein Air Invitational Honorable Mention Award, 2003 Laguna Plein Air Invitational Best in Show Artists’ Choice Award, the 2007 Western Rendezvous of Art Artist Choice Award, 2010 Portrait Society of America First Place Award, and 2015 Prix de West Show Buyers Choice Award. Scott participated as an invited plein air painter in the prestigious Laguna Beach Plein Air Painting invitational five times (1999, 2000, 2002, 2003, and 2006). Scott is an invited master artist in the LPAPA Gallery’s 2025 special exhibition “LPAPA Beyond the Landscape” featuring works by Jove Wang, Scott Burdick and Dan McCaw.
