Laguna Beach Magazine: 10 Minutes with Cynthia Britain
LPAPA Signature Artist & Founding Member Cynthia Britain was recently interviewed by Laguna Beach Magazine and shared about being a plein air painter and being one of the founding members of the Laguna Plein Air Painters Association (LPAPA).
Cynthia Britain is passionate about painting as well as spending time in nature, the perfect combination for her chosen profession as a plein air painter, capturing the stunning scenery of this coastal town on canvas.
Britain appreciates the organization’s educational efforts in particular. “Through LPAPA’s events, the organization shines the spotlight on Laguna Beach’s heritage as the home of the early California impressionist movement. LPAPA brings arts education to the community at large, including a program to educate schoolchildren about plein air painting.”
She’s also proud of the LPAPA Gallery in north Laguna, which recently celebrated its one-year anniversary and showcases plein air painters—both local artists and those from across the U.S.

September 2022 Featured Signature Artist: Robin Purcell
September 2022 Signature Artist Member of the Month: Robin Purcell of Carlsbad, California
“I discovered a love of Plein Air Watercolor with William Ternes during New England Summers. I was able to begin painting outdoors year round when I moved to sunny inland Northern California. Four years ago I moved to Southern California where the light changed my work because of a luminous coastal atmosphere .It has meant the most to me to document the recovery of Mount Diablo with an “After the Fire ” Series. I am proud to be recognized by my peers as a Signature Member of LPAPA, AIS, NWS, AWS, MCWA, and to have been an exhibitor at the California Art Club for 12 Consecutive Gold Medal Exhibition. I was honored to paint in the 2019 LPAPA invitational.” –Robin Purcell
