July 2022 Featured Artist: Laurie Hendricks

July 2022 Featured Artist Member of the Month: Laurie Hendricks of South Pasadena, California

“I’m a believer in the benefits of painting from life, whether from a live model, outdoors in the landscape or a still life, because it’s the best way to see true color and value in nature.  I endeavor to paint in direct response to my subject, in a loose impressionist/expressionist way, taking the subject before me, filtering it through my feelings and emotions, to create something unique and original.  My acting and film background helps me to to tell the story and create good design and composition within the frame that is the canvas. Nature is my muse, but my interpretation of natural beauty is expressed in my own voice. My approach to Plein Air is to take the work to a degree of finish on location, rarely working on it later in the studio.”

June 2022 Signature Artist Member of the Month:  Kim Lordier of Millbrae, California

“I believe authentic creativity, in all forms, is an intimately human endeavor, a way to relate spiritually with one another, a way to feel connected to the beauty of our world. From failure to fruition, my art is grounded in life’s passions and joy. Ever grateful for the opportunity to visually express my voice in pure pigment, I dance to the rhythms of nature in pastel.” –Kim Lordier

June 2022 Featured Artist: Carol Van Vooren at her easel

June 2022 Featured Artist Member of the Month: Carol Van Vooren of Carlsbad, California

” My favorite places to paint are my own weekly experiences:  the beach, the golf course, local wineries, and events like the Carlsbad Flower Fields.  Most of my paintings are plein air, but sometimes I paint these same scenes in the studio…better known as my kitchen.  A primary motivation in selling my paintings (sometimes right off the easel) is to donate the proceeds to my daughter’s non-profit, Comunidad de Apoyo San Diego, an organization that helps medically uninsured people get needed surgeries. ” –Carol Van Vooren

May 2022 Featured Artist: Victoria Huff

May 1, 2022 by Bonnie Langner

LPAPA Featured Artist Victoria Huff at her easel

May 2022 Featured Artist Member of the Month: Victoria Huff of El Segundo, California

Born and raised in Southern California Victoria fell in love with the outdoors. Memories of hiking, camping in the mountains, deserts and beaches of California remain imprinted in her mind. She found her passion while earning her Bachelors of Fine Art in Illustration at California State University, Long Beach. While attending art school Victoria developed a broad visual vocabulary and was exposed to a wide spectrum of ideas. It was not until she applied these fundamentals with the adventure of the outdoors that she truly learned to paint. Her paintings depict the places she loves and are deeply connected to her experiences there. Many pieces are created outdoors on location or studies are brought back to the studio for her to expand on. She finds herself captivated by the ebb and flow of the ocean, the stretching shadows and the golden sunlight that California has to offer. Victoria currently lives in Los Angeles as a full-time artist and continues developing her work.
