LPAPA Signature Members are established professional artists recognized for their mastery and dedication to the tradition of painting en plein air. This distinction is reserved for artists who demonstrate superior craftsmanship and a unique ability to capture the essence of a scene on location.

The path to LPAPA Signature Membership is highly selective; candidates are evaluated by a panel of LPAPA advisors, prominent collectors, peers, and renowned authorities on Impressionism. Only a limited number of artists—those who achieve the highest juried scores—are invited to join this elite roster each year, representing the very best of the plein air movement.

Laguna Hotel Painting Contest 2025

Hotel Laguna painting contest

We are delighted to announce that the Hotel Laguna is sponsoring our 3rd Annual “Hotel Laguna” Painting Competition for 2025! LPAPA Members are invited to paint the Hotel Laguna and submit the completed painting image before midnight Monday, September 22nd, for the opportunity to be juried as one of 8 awards finalists to be judged for cash awards and exhibited for sale at the Hotel Laguna on October 2nd for Art Start (5-6PM) for First Thursday Art Walk (6-9PM) in the hotel’s Rose Garden plaza!

Three cash awards will be presented, 1st Place $500, 2nd Place $250, and 3rd Place $125; awards to be announced at 5:30PM during the Art Start reception on Thursday October 2nd. Details and registration can be found through the link below (full prospectus included in the emailed Call for Artwork). 

In addition to the exhibition of the LPAPA Awards Finalists, there will be performances by the Laguna Dance Festival during Art Walk. Everyone is invited to the Hotel Laguna reception to celebrate Art Start for First Thursdays Art Walk! Free entry. 

The LPAPA Gallery will also be open for First Thursday Art Walk (6-9PM) so plan to stop by to check out the current Laguna Invitational Artists’ “Catalog Art” Exhibition!

The Laguna Plein Air Painters Association (LPAPA) proudly presents the 22nd Annual “Best of Plein Air” Juried Art Show at the LPAPA Gallery, featuring original works created en plein air by LPAPA Signature and Artist Members.

Exhibition Timeline:

  • Online Launch & Preview Auction: 10AM, Monday, March 2, 2026
  • Gallery Opening: Thursday, March 5, 1PM
  • Public Reception (Art Walk): Thursday, March 5, 6-9PM (Free Entry; Awards Announced at 7PM)
  • Show Closes: Monday, March 30, 2026

The entry fee is $40 for 1 or 2 paintings submitted. All submitting LPAPA Signature, Artist or Student Members will receive a $5 LPAPA Loyalty Reward credited to their LPAPA-Portal.org account at the end of the show to apply to future membership renewal.

Award Winners: There will be 3 cash awards categories — Signature Member, Artists Member, & Student Member (award winners to be announced on December 4th at 7pm).

The Online Preview Auction referenced above will open at 80% of the full retail price for the painting with $10 bid increments. The preview auction includes a “buy now” option at the full retail price. Unless other arrangements are made through LPAPA, paintings sold through the Auction and through the Gallery will be shipped or available for pick up after the gallery show ends. Paintings sold through the expanded online show of semi-finalist paintings will be shipped by the artist.
