On Saturday October 1st, 2pm to 5pm, LPAPA is inviting all of its Members to gather in Laguna Beach for a community-wide “just for the plein fun of it” All Member Welcome Paint Out to celebrate and welcome our 2022 Laguna Invitational Artists who are arriving from far and near to participate in the 24th Annual Laguna Beach Plein Air Painting Invitational!  Paint Out locations include Heisler Park, Main Beach Park, and Treasure Island Park. Paint Out with Saim Caglayan, July 6th

LPAPA Paint Out with Saim CaglayanLPAPA Signature Artist & Founding Member Saim Caglayan as he leads a LPAPA Paint Out at the Mission San Juan Capistrano on Wednesday, July 6, 2022, 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. This is a special event at the Mission, limited to a maximum of 40 painters, advance registration is required!

Members and Non-Members are invited to join the fun, meet fellow LPAPA Artists, and get treated to an oil painting demonstration by Saim! Registrants can bring their painting gear and plan to paint along with Saim after the demo… or set up and paint on your own!

And, please be sure to see Saim’s Exhibition “California Missions in Oil” in the Soldier’s Barracks Gallery while visiting the Mission!

Registration is limited to 40 registered artists for this special paint out event!

Registration fee $15 for LPAPA Members; $25 for Non-Member Guests. All participants will be asked to pay a $10 general admission entry fee to the Mission the day of the event (with the exception that Mission SJC Members may enter free of charge).

(Note: LPAP Members must login when registering to receive the discounted event member price; registered LPAPA members will receive a $5 LPAPA Loyalty Rewards Credit in their account to use for future registration or renewal!).

Thomas Kitts: Mentor Paint Out, April 23rd

Thomas Kitts LPAPA Paint Out 2022

LPAPA is pleased to present a LPAPA Mentor Paint Out that includes a Painting Demonstration & Critique Session with Signature Artist Thomas Jefferson Kitts on Saturday April 23, 2022 (9:00 am to 2:00 pm) at Irvine Regional Park. 

The focus of this LPAPA Paint-Out will be on your classic California sycamore trees in Irvine Regional Park. We will approach the trees as if they are human figures that bend, tilt, twist, and foreshorten; similar to how the human body turns toward and away from you in a life pose. Your goal is to learn how to create the illusion of volume and space around and within the tree and this approach can be applied to other Southern California vegetation, such as the eucalyptus, pin oaks, and hardwoods.
 
Thomas will demo in oil but this paint-out is open to ALL media. You may work in oil, acrylic, gouache, pastel, or watercolor. You can simplify your effort even more by drawing with a value-based media instead, such as graphite or soft vine charcoal on a medium size paper. (Be sure to bring a sharpener and clean kneadable eraser if you draw.) You will have two hours to paint or draw after the demo. We will then have a short group critique.

Please be prepared to work hard because Thomas promises to cover a lot of ground!

This 5-hour mentor session requires advance registration and will be limited to 15 participants. The park has a $5.00 entry fee to pay when you enter. Further details with the meet-up location will be provided to registrants.

LPAPA’s mentor paint outs are presented as part of The Plein Air Project, LPAPA’s multi-generational art education programs. Registration fees support LPAPA’s education programs, administrative costs, and provides a stipend for the artist. This and other LPAPA education programs are provided to its members free or at discounted pricing. Registration fees are non-refundable unless the event is cancelled by LPAPA.

LPAPA Music Festival Paint Out, April 2nd

Celebrating the 20th season of the Laguna Beach Music Festival, the Laguna Plein Air Painters Association is inviting its members (and all out door painters) to meet up in Heisler Park for a special to celebrate music and create art en plein air. 

Whether you come for the organic shapes of the rocky cliffs, the majestic palm trees, or colors of the landscape, or are interested in simply enjoying music around town, there is plenty of discovery to be made in the nuance.

Register to join in the fun as we celebrate the arts Saturday, April 2, 2022 from 2 pm – 4 pm at Heisler Park in Laguna Beach.  Bring your family, bring your friends and enjoy a day full of music and art!

Registration recommended; plan to bring your own painting gear and supplies.

Anthony Salvo: Laguna Big Bend Paint Out, April 25th

Laguna Plein Air Paint Out with Anthony Salvo

Join LPAPA Signature Artist Anthony Salvo for a fun and informative LPAPA+LOCA Mentor Paint Out at Big Bend in Laguna Coast Wilderness Park in Laguna Beach. Come enjoy painting the beautiful rural views of trees, hills, trail paths, and larger hills bordering Laguna Canyon Road. Lots of organic landscape shapes to paint. Wonderful location for beginners and intermediate painters to paint plein air.

Come watch Anthony’s painting demonstration, then set up your outdoor painting gear and join the fun.

Recommended supply list will be sent after registration. This is an in-person outdoor mentor painting session with each registrant bringing his or her own painting gear and supplies.
