“I do not consider myself a watercolorist, but rather an artist who expresses his art through this most challenging of mediums. I paint in watercolor because of its fluidity which expresses so well the flowing forces that I see and feel in Nature. My technique of fluid overlapping brushstrokes has grown from the study of 19^th Century British and American masters of the medium and a close observation of the insights of other painters with a special appreciation for the California Impressionists as a painter is to capture the ever-transient light and its colors within a composition of balance and harmony.” –Larry Cannon

Majoring in Fine Arts, in a painting class, he began to work with color for the first time. Jensen realized that his life-long, drawing background had set a great foundation for him as a painter.  But it was his “deep down” desire to paint, rooted in family life experiences, that surfaced in the remembered words of his father: words about the importance of warm and cool light and broad brushwork. Now, the first things people notice about Ryan Jensen’s paintings are the way he handles light and his brushwork.
