March 2022 Featured Artist Member: Carole Boller

LPAPA Artist Member Carole Boller hosts a LPAPA -LOCA Paint Together

LPAPA’s March 2022 Artist Member of the Month Carole Boller of Balboa Island, California

Transformation is at the heart of Boller’s paintings.  Each time she paints she approaches the canvas without baggage. Intrigued by light-hitting color, she relies on the sensitivity of her eye and the clarity of her memory to keep the scene alive, as she intuitively reaches for opaque pigments that transform into a translucent atmosphere when juxtaposed on canvas. When looking at one of her paintings, one partakes in the pleasure she surely felt in achieving her goal and thus is also transformed by her vision.

Eileen shares, “Whether the painting is created outdoors for plein air or in the comfort of my studio the process is the same. All paintings begin with a full size sketch created on location. I use student grade watercolor paper size 18 x 24 and a combination of water soluble graphite pencils and crayons. The purpose of the sketch is to design a composition that I believe has potential for a good painting. The sketch is used as my blueprint and will dictate most of my painting decisions. I break away from traditional painting choices such as local color, light source, perspective and form. My stylized paintings reflect not only what I see but what I feel.“

“I feel my style is Impressionistic.  I am inspired by the works of Cassatt, Sorolla and Sargent.  My favorite thing is to capture special moments in everyday life through portraits, landscapes, seascapes and still life.  I want the viewer to be pulled into the painting with a story or an impression that is intriguing or inspiring.  I convey my passion with composition, color, contrasts and brushstrokes.  My greatest thrill comes when someone loves one of my paintings and it speaks to them.  Priceless!” –Susan Gordinier
