January 2024 Featured Signature Artist of the Month Durre Waseem

January 2024 Signature Artist of the Month: Durre Waseem of Corona, California

I grew up in a family that loved to draw and color.  I took up formal art classes in college and earned a Masters degree from Punjab university where I taught for next seven years and later three at a girls college. It was during my teaching years that I explored myself as an artist with better understanding of seeing and omitting. For next 30 years of painting my colors and strokes evolved and as they adapted through my exposure to different art and places. I feel that now I only take charge of selecting a subject and my painting leads me through the process.–Durre Waseem

January 2024 Featured Artist Member of the Month Sarah Ciavarella

LPAPA Artist Member of the Month Sarah Ciavarella

January 2024 Artist Member of the Month: Sarah Ciavarella of Irvine, California

Sarah’s artistic journey began in the small Northern Minnesota town of Bemidji, with her mother’s creative spirit as her guide. In college, although Initially enamored with oil painting, her path unexpectedly veered toward other areas including serigraphy and metalwork. After graduating with an art degree her journey stretched to a graphics department in Southern California, where she found balance between her creative pursuits and the fullness of family life. As her children embarked on their own paths, Sarah rediscovered her passion for painting, gleaning insights from seasoned artists, workshops and books. Her creations pay homage to the imperfect and the time-honored, each work thoughtfully acknowledging the storied existence of relics that connect us through shared history.

LPAPA Signature Artist of the Month Clark Mitchell

August 2023 Signature Artist of the Month:  Clark Mitchell  of  Cotati, California

Growing up in the shadow of the Rockies, Clark Mitchell very early discovered a love of the natural world. Given a set of fine old German pastels by his father when quite young, he quickly embraced the medium for its ease of handling, brilliance of color and portability. He received a bachelor’s degree in art from Colorado College in the seventies and moved to San Francisco to continue his studies at the Academy of Art College. Through personal exploration as well as study with artists Albert Handell, Skip Whitcomb, Michael Lynch and Bill Hook, Mitchell has developed the talent to create both tightly rendered scenes as well as looser, more abstract suggestions. In order to fully immerse himself in the countryside he loved to portray, Mitchell left San Francisco with his partner over thirty years ago and moved north to the beautiful Sonoma County wine country. Painting expeditions throughout the state as well as across the country continue to provide challenge as well as inspiration.
