March 2023 Artist Member of the Month: Gabriel Stockton of San Diego, California

Drawing and painting have always been a part of watercolor artist Gabriel Stockton’s California life. Colorful jars of paint were within arm’s reach at his mother’s ceramic studio, AKA “The Garage”. While on his educational journey, he worked in mixed media but eventually focused on watercolor. Gabriel resides in San Diego, California with his family, and has a studio at Spanish Village in Balboa Park. “En Plein Air”, Gabriel is often seen with his hand made wooden vintage easel with a display of recent paintings in the community. Being approachable, he enjoys sharing his knowledge, thoughts and feelings about painting outside in workshops, classrooms and paint-outs, with confident brush strokes, bright colors and eye-catching watercolor paintings

February 2023 Signature Artist Member of the Month:  Scott W. Prior of Oceanside, CA

Scott W. Prior is an award winning oil painter and Southern California native. He received his BFA from The Academy of Art University in San Francisco, CA where he studied under the exceptional artists Craig Nelson, Bill Maughan and Hui Han Lui. During his time at the Academy Scott established his skills in design, drawing and painting, giving him a solid foundation with which to develop his own unique, artistic style. Scott draws inspiration from the beauty in ordinary, everyday scenes.

February 2023 Artist Member of the Month: Denise Busony of Huntington Beach, California

Denise is a former Indiana farm “girl”  who now resides in “Surf City, USA” (Huntington Beach, California). Denise began her fine art journey in 2019 when she bought her plein air kit on a Wednesday evening and joined her first plein air paint out in Laguna Beach the next morning. She jumped right into the plein air painting movement and has never looked back.

Since then, Denise has been privileged to learn from some of her favorite artists, including Jane Hunt, Kathleen Dunphy, Aimee Erickson, and Greg LaRock. In addition to landscapes, she also enjoys painting still lifes and pets. But she has the most rewarding experience painting en plein air. She relishes the immediacy and the intuitiveness that painting on location in rapidly changing light demands.

January 2023 Artist Member of the Month: Lee Munsell of Mission Viejo, California

Lee Munsell studied fine art at Otis Art Institute, Santa Monica College, and with California artist Bonnie Wade from the age of 10 until high school.  He currently lives in Mission Viejo, California with his wife Lorrie and has four children and 7 grandchildren.

“When I am painting I am seeking to capture the detail, beauty and wisdom of the creation. My hope for those who are drawn to my work is that they will stop and take some time to reflect on the miracles all around us. Then ponder the hidden lessons that are there and who it is pointing to.” –Lee Munsell
