“The designation of ‘Signature Artist’ in any artists’ association is a recognition of high status, an acknowledgment by your peers that you are worthy of special distinction for your remarkable talent and capability in creating a work of art. It is a distinction that the majority of members of any art group do not have and in turn, would love to receive. Your peers look to Signature Artists for inspiration and to set a high standard that they themselves strive to achieve.”
—Mr. Jean Stern, Director Emeritus of The Irvine Museum.

The top-scoring artists, based on the combined scores of our 4 distinguished panel of jurors, after a review of the artist’s submitted body of work representing their best plein air and studio work, received the designation of Laguna Plein Air Painters Association Signature Artist Member.

Many thanks to our 2024 distinguished panel of Jurors:
Mark Fehlman, LPAPA Signature Artist Member & LPAPA Board Member
Celeste Gilles, LPAPA’s Vice President
Bonnie Langner, LPAPA’s Executive Director
Mr. Jean Stern, Emeritus Director of The Irvine Museum & Artistic Advisory to LPAPA’s Board of Directors

July 2024 Signature Artist of the Month: John Budicin of San Bernardino, California

“Most subjects I paint are everyday places, that with the right light, become magical. The intimacy which develops between artist and nature can not be expressed any other way. The relationship between artist and nature is like any other relationship, it takes time to nurture. The artist observes, and learns to see what nature presents. He becomes one with nature getting to know her and listening to what she has to say. Eventually he will be an instrument of nature; representing the beauty, the light and effects as interpreted through the artist’s eyes.”–John Budicin
